Africa, after Asia in both cases, is the second largest and second-most-populous continent in the world. It occupies 6% of the overall surface area of the Earth and 20% of its ground area. Despite this low concentration of capital, in the wider global context, recent economic growth and the large and young population make Africa an important economic market. Comprising about 115 islands, with lush tropical vegetation, beautiful beaches, and a wide variety of marine life, Seychelles is an island republic in the western Indian Ocean. It is one of the smallest countries in the world, made up of two major groups of islands: the Mahé group of more than 40 central granite mountain islands and the Mahé group of more than 70 outer, flat, coral islands. The Mahé group of islands are rocky and usually have a narrow coastal strip and a central hill range.
With their lush tropical plants, the overall feature of those islands is that of high hanging gardens overlooking silver-white beaches and transparent lagoons. Within this mountainous island, the group is the highest point in Seychelles, Morne Seychellois (2,969 feet [905 meters]), situated on Mahé. Just a few feet above sea level, the coralline islands are flat with elevated coral reefs at various stages of development. These islands are mostly waterless and very few of them have a population of residents. Tropical oceanic climate, with little change in temperature throughout the year. Regular temperatures rise in the afternoon to the mid-80s F (low 30s C) and fall at night to the low 70s F (low 20s C). The rate of precipitation differs significantly from island to island.
