Why is my car squeaking when I start it in the morning?

My car makes a loud squeaking noise every morning at startup. It lasts about 30 seconds then stops. Weather has been cold lately. No warning lights on dashboard. Should I be worried?

The squeaking noise is likely caused by a loose or worn serpentine belt or a faulty belt tensioner. Even in sunny weather, these components can wear out. Have a mechanic inspect and replace them if necessary to prevent further issues.

The morning squeak is typically caused by a worn or loose serpentine belt. In cold weather, the rubber belt becomes stiff and slips against the pulleys until it warms up.

While not immediately dangerous, this indicates your belt needs attention. Have a mechanic check it soon.

Ignoring it could lead to belt failure and leave you stranded. It’s a common issue that’s relatively inexpensive to fix if caught early.
